More on the All-New Audi R8

There is a storm of all-electric cars coming into the market and Audi NZ is leading the charge. The brand’s new all-electric e-toro model is set to be launched by the end of 2020. The battery-free car is expected to feature a battery pack that produces more power than the standard sedan models. The all-electric storm begins with a high-power glam launch of the brand’s first truly electric e-toro SUV in Auckland. In some ways, this tomorrow-tomorrow model may already be yesterday’s news, as Audi NZ’s head executive dean Sheed has confirmed that it is already locked in as many pure batteries as the company currently produces.

Audi’s all-wheel drive division is also working on a new model, which will sport an aerodynamic body design, low-profile kidney grille and a pair of LED light kits. If the rumors are true, the new model should feature a pair of LED lights behind the front seats, a front-mounted twin accent light kit and redesigned, wider front air vents. It is also expected to sport new front and rear bumpers with deeper channels, side skirts and a re-sized rear window opening. Another important detail we must mention in the auto magazine is the rumor that the all-new Audi will also offer LFA (lightweight aluminum) custom flooring and headlamps. These will replace the conventional magnesium-based flooring and head lamps of the E-Tron and possibly the upcoming RS.

Given the recent announcement of the all-new Audi RS and its planned global launch early in 2020, we expect the new E-Tron to get its fair share of press coverage. The auto magazine seems to confirm many of our earlier reports, including that the new model will be powered by an electric motor, using batteries as a power source. We also saw a leak of one prototype E-Tron at a trade show, but it is unclear whether this is the production car or a test mule. No matter what happens, we believe this new electric car concept to be an advanced evolution of the current E-Tron models, and we expect it to adopt many of the styling cues from its North American and Italian competitors.
